Continuing our ‘Meet the Team’ feature, this week we’re happy to introduce Shrewsbury Deputy Branch Manager Jackie Millward. Jackie will be celebrating her one year anniversary with Jane Lewis at the start of next year and in the last nine months has not only become an invaluable part of the Shrewsbury branch team but the whole of Jane Lewis.
Jackie has spent some time answering our regular mix of ‘Meet the Team’ questions so you can get to know her better both personally and professionally. When you call our Shrewsbury branch you’ll hopefully feel like you know Jackie a bit better before enquiring about the wide range of well-paid nursing and healthcare hours we have in a variety of NHS and private settings across Shrewsbury and surrounding areas.
How long have you worked for Jane Lewis?
I’ve worked at Jane Lewis since early spring 2015 at the Shrewsbury branch which is located on The Rural Enterprise Centre.
What is your background?
Before I began my career in healthcare I was a restaurant manager which I really enjoyed, as it was an opportunity to work as part of a team delivering high standards of service. I then moved into healthcare when then opportunity to work as a home care assistant arose. It was a job I really loved and during my time I was promoted to admin, then coordinator until I started my current role as Shrewsbury Deputy Branch Manager.
What is the highlight of working for Jane Lewis?
The highlight for me of working for Jane Lewis is the team philosophy of the business, as I love being part of a team and the sense of achievement that is felt when branch objectives are met. I get on really well and have a great working relationship with all my colleagues and enjoy the team ethic that runs throughout Jane Lewis.
What are the benefits to staff (Nurses, HCAs, Specialist Support Workers) of working for Jane Lewis?
I think the central benefit we offer our staff is flexibility. As most of our staff have busy family lives it means they are able to work and earn without being constrained by contracts and set shifts. I also think that variety is the spice of life and that being able to work in a number of settings with a mix of people really helps our staff increase their confidence and develop their careers.
What motivates you during your working day?
My main motivation at work is communicating with our staff and clients as I like to talk with our staff to make sure we’re providing them with the hours in the settings they require and that ultimately they’re happy.
Tell us something unusual about yourself?
My first ever job was in a small chocolate shop making (and sometimes eating) chocolate all day! I think the skills I learnt there helped me to develop my baking skills which I have put to great use during a number of charity events we have held at Jane Lewis Nursing Agency, including the bake sale I organised for Macmillan Nurses which raised £327.55!
Where do you live?
I live in Market Drayton which is only a short distance from our nursing agency offices in Shrewsbury.
What is your favourite song?
There are far too many to choose from as I really love music! However, I would have to say that my current favourite would be anything by an acapella band called Pentatonix.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Well I would have to say Thailand, as that’s where I went on honeymoon and we absolutely loved the destination and had a great time.
Who would play you in a movie of your life?
Probably the best person to play me would be someone clumsy like Miranda Hart.
