Agency staff were defended by REC Director of Policy, Tom Hadley, this week after Health secretary, Matt Hancock, criticised their use as not cost effective.
Hadley said, “Targeting temporary and locum staff who keep our NHS going is the wrong approach and risks damaging staff morale.”
Agencies like Jane Lewis already work within NHS frameworks and pricing caps and will continue to support the NHS to create a safe and effective workforce.
Agency work offers a small minority of Healthcare professionals a unique and value flexibility that cannot always be offered through direct employment. They are highly trained, regulated, motivated and skilled individuals who are vital to support with sickness and short term vacancies.
